The House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance released its Report earlier this week, with includes a total of 359 recommendations. These recommendations are meant to directly inform Cabinet and Finance officials as they finalize what will be covered in the federal Budget.
Nukik is pleased that the Committee, once again included the Kivalliq Hydro-Fibre Link as a stand-alone recommendation, in its February 2024 report, as per below:
Recommendation 287: Commit to provide direct funding for Nukik Corporation to enable the Kivalliq Hydro‐Fibre Link project to proceed.
This major project is at an important juncture, with renewed commitments coming from Manitoba and strong leadership in Nunavut. Continued support from the federal government is crucial. The project was mentioned in Budgets 2021 and 2023.
“As the only Inuit-owned inter-tie transmission and fibre-optic project currently in the development phase, Ottawa has an opportunity to make history, and connect Nunavut to the rest of Canada for the very first time”, said Anne-Raphaëlle Audouin, CEO of Nukik Corporation, on the occasion of the release of the House of Commons Committee report.
