Launch of the 2026 Nukik Annual Summary Report

ASR Cover

Nukik is pleased to release our 2025–2026 Annual Summary Report (ASR), highlighting another year of progress advancing the Kivalliq Hydro-Fibre Link (KHFL).

As one of Canada’s most significant clean energy and connectivity projects, the KHFL will connect Nunavut’s Kivalliq region to Manitoba’s hydroelectric grid and fibre network for the first time. Over the past year, the project reached several major milestones.

This is why Nukik publishes an Annual Summary Report: to keep Inuit organizations, governments, communities, rightsholders, industry partners, and the public informed about project activities, milestones, and next steps. It’s a key part of our commitment to transparency and accountability. As the KHFL advances, maintaining open communication remains a core part of how we work.

What’s in this year’s ASR?

This year’s report highlights a period of growing momentum for the project, including:

  • Manitoba’s commitment of 50 megawatts of firm clean power to the KHFL
  • Submission of the project’s Proposal and Land Use Plan Amendment Application to the Nunavut Planning Commission, launching formal regulatory review processes
  • Continued commercial advancement with Agnico Eagle Mines and Qulliq Energy Corporation
  • Progress on transmission planning and technical work with Manitoba Hydro
  • Ongoing field studies, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit research, and community engagement across Nunavut and Manitoba
  • Key priorities and next steps as the project advances toward engineering, procurement, and pre-construction activities
